Description
The main church in Noci was founded in the 14th century as can be seen from the remains of Gothic-style frescoes in the Chapel of the Trinity. The present-day appearance of the building is the result of many phases of renovation carried out in modern and contemporary times. The façade was restored in the 19th century and features three 15th century doorways in late-Gothic style crowned by an epigraph recalling Count Giulio Antonio I Acquaviva D'Aragona and his wife Caterina del Balzo Orsini, who ordered the building of the place of worship. A rose window is located over the central doorway. The late-baroque style bell tower was built in 1758. The interior of the church is divided into three naves. A number of Renaissance artworks are worthy of note, including the 16th century polychrome polyptych attributed to the Apulian sculptor Nuzzo Barba and the Enthroned Virgin and Child dating from 1505 by Stefano da Putignano.
