The Cathedral of Acquaviva delle Fonti is dedicated to Saint Eustace, a Roman soldier and martyr, who together with Our Lady of Constantinople is the patron of the town. The building was named a "palatine" church in the 18th century, in other words subject to the sole authority of the sovereign. The cathedral was built between 1529 and 1594 over pre-existing medieval structures. The Renaissance façade rises over three splendid flights of steps, one central and the others leading up to the secondary entranceways. The façade is divided into thee levels by cornices held up on lesenes. The doorways are situated on the first level, the rose window on the second and the gable roof on the third. The central doorway is flanked by columns held up by lions. The lunette features a high relief of Saint Eustace on horseback. The three naves of the interior are separated by arches supported by large pillars. The Gothic Revival decoration is the result of 19th century renovation work. Two stairways from the side naves lead down to the crypt. This rectangular space is divided into square bays with groin-vaults held up on Ionic columns. The silver altars of the Holy Sacrament and Our Lady of Constantinople are worthy of note, the latter the work of the 18th century Neapolitan silversmiths Biagio Guariniello and Andrea De Blasio.
